Kelly & Mike took off for the coast on Saturday, Jan 28th and we watched...Savannah. Carol did a great job of barricading the TV, etc with a kiddie corral. I had to learn how fast kids can move. And she can change directions in a split second. I love the smiling face and the waving right hand, while the left hand is turning the dish washer on! Payton was a great distraction. She would take time to stop and pet him between runs into the kitchen and living room. She slept all night and ate a good breakfast - way to go Grammy :) Her parents came to rescue her in the early afternoon.

Jim & Vonnie came over for Pizza and Pinochle. The girls really spanked us :( Maybe next week :)

Kelly's Birthday was Jan 25th...so we motored on over to their place, after picking up Mom Peters. Ice cream cakes are the best :) It was fun being with everyone, even though it was kinda late. We had to get Mom back home, the girls had school, and we had to work the next day, so we didn't stay too long. But, we sure put a dent in those cakes :) Happy Birthday, Kelly...may you have many, many more!!!

After a really hard rain and strong wind, Carol & I went to Lincoln City to relax and celebrate my birthday and our anniversary (kinda late). We left Jan 20th in the afternoon - Hwy 18 had just been re-opened from fallen trees. The road was clear and wet, but no accidents, etc. We checked into the hotel and had dinner at Selitz Buffet. I kept the window open so we could here the waves...very relaxing. The first picture is from our window on the third floor. Breakfast at Three Little Pigs. We took in an early matinee, and jumped into the pool and Jacuzzi in the afternoon. Then, on to Galoucci's for Pizza! We got up fairly early and headed home, Sunday the 22nd. There were some serious football play-offs to watch :)

This is the latest addition to my Jeff Gordon collection. This was never raced, but the color scheme was designed by his daughter, Ella. So, it's a Jeff Gordon Foundation Car titled "My Papa's Car". I keep the foundation Cars separate from the raced versions. Anyway, Thank You Jim & Vonnie for the Car, Dinner, and the Pinochle game! And Thank You Curt and Carol for collaborating with the Lash's! January is flying by us. It will soon be February and I haven't said anything about Christmas...we picked up Mom Peters and went to Kelly & Mike's place and had a great dinner and opened gifts with the girls. Carol's Children's Choir did great! She has a CD if anyone wants one. Taking off for the coast today with my bride :) Will write more soon.

I caught up with Mike and Kelly (and the girls) at Mikayla's winter concert Thursday evening. They did a great job and it was so fun to see all of the seventh graders perform. Lots of Christmas activities in the next couple of weeks. I'll try to keep everyone posted :)

Yesterday we picked up Mom Peters, Lloyd, Nancy and Orv and came back to the house to watch Denver Bronco's play the Minnesota Vikings. How's about that defense!! Carol fixed Spaghetti and meatballs - way too good! We drove out to Willamette National Cemetery to pay our respects to Dad Peters. We returned to the house and Mike & Kelly brought the girls over for desert and entertainment :) More to come soon.

Thursday, December 1st,we picked up Orv, Nancy and Lloyd Dyer at PDX and drove them to Mom Peters' place in Beaverton. Yesterday we drove them to visit the Matney's in Salem, OR. We had a great visit and a bowl of chili :) Last night we drove around the Portland International Raceway and saw the Christmas lights display - great job! Today we're going to get a sneak peek at Carol's dress rehearsal for next week's church children's choir presentation of "The Great Christmas Giveaway". Tonight we're going to White Christmas in Lake Oswego. More pics and info to come soon.

On Monday, 31 October 2011 I flew out of Portland and attended a two day school in Chicago. It was fast and furious! Then I came home and got ready for Phoenix International Raceway! I left Portland on Saturday a.m. , met my brother Russ and his son John at the airport in Phoenix and we drove to the PIR track. We met my Dad, brother Don, and his sons Paul and Eric in the stands. And we also sat with Frank (Lynette's squeeze), Joshua, and Caleb (my two grandsons!). The weather co-operated and the racing was great! After the race on Sat. and Sun. we had dinner at Lynette and Franks place in Peoria. Thanks for the great food and entertainment (football)! This was the BEST trip I've had so far...everything went pretty well.

This was a long week...anyway...it's the weekend! Carol & I worked around the house in the A.M. Then we picked up Mom Peters and headed for the beach :) We had dinner at Mo's in Canon Beach (first picture). And Carol took the pooch for a walk on the beach. Payton slept on Mom's lap all the way home. It was almost 60 degrees and slight wind - perfect for this time of year.

This weekend Carol & I celebrated Carol's birthday by spending time on the coast. Friday evening we had dinner at Grande Ronde (buffet). Then we went down to Lincoln City and stayed Friday and Saturday night. Saturday we went to Newport and did a little shopping. We tried our best to bowl a couple of games - that was funny! Then we came back and walked the beach for a while and went swimming at the hotel. I love the Jacuzzi! We ate an early dinner and took in a movie - Killer Elite (complicated plot). The ocean shot above was from our hotel room window (with zoom). We left this morning - it was cloudy, but warm. Thanks to everyone for making this weekend possible!

Did you notice the "Wheel Of Fortune" bus at Chinook Winds parking lot (last picture)? They were taping audiences for upcoming shows. More to come very soon.

Yesterday was Mom Peters' birthday...so Carol and Vonnie got together with the folks at Rock Creek Retirement Center and everyone had a great time! Jim & Vonnie Lash bought Mom flowers - great roses! And we had dinner in the guest dinning room. We were joined by Mike, Kelly, the girls, Linda and Ron Rangel for dessert and gift openings. Mom turned a young 85. We took her to Annie Get Your Gun last weekend. We'll post more after the weekend - Lincoln City for Carol's Birthday :)

Yesterday we took Jim & Vonnie Lash with us to Lincoln City, OR to the "Surf City" car show. As you can tell, it was raining (again). But, we still managed a few pictures. Carol had her hair done Saturday a.m. (bad timing :) ) We had luch at Mo's, then back to the house for some pinnocchle!

Last weekend (Labor Day) we worked in the yard and added the last of the red rock in the front yard. And cleaned up the backyard a little. We took a little side trip to Lincoln City for Lunch at MO's - we are so spoiled :) This week I had to go to Seaside, OR for Patterson (my Job) and then drove to Florence and Coos Bay. I met Travis Mason (another Patterson Repair Tech) in Florence and we drove to Coos Bay. The next day we worked on Cerec software upgrade, then I drove 4 hours home. Really busy week.

Today we went over to Mom Peters place and we did some "deep cleaning". Then it was time to mow the grass (front & back), and wash the Patterson Van (lots of bugs!). Hope all is well with everyone - I'll post more soon.

What a week...we were travelling from Denver on Monday. That afternoon we really got alot of work done around the house. The rest of the week flew by! Friday night we picked up Mom Peters and went to a Bar-B-Q at Mike & Shiela Done's (Mom's Realator). It was a great evening...super food...great weather. Saturday a.m. Kelly dropped off Gracie and Savanah. Mike & Kelly went to the Seattle Mariner's game and spent the night. We took the little ones to....the beach! Wrong day to take Hwy 26...Hood to Coast Bike & Run was going on and they were going to meet in Seaside. So, we decided to go to Canon Beach. Great weather! And Carol packed lots of snacks and drinks :) When we got home, we all couldn't wait to take a shower. The girls slept until about 8:30a.m. Sunday. Carol fixed breakfast for everyone (my favorite meal). Kelly & Mike picked the girls up around noon. It kinda got real quiet around the house for some reason.

We received a call at about 6:30a.m. today - my Dad said that my Mom had fallen on the way to the restroom last night. He had to call 911 to get some help. They took Mom to the hospital in Cheyenne and she'd fractured the right side hip. Surgery was early this evening. They were going to place a pin in the hipbone to strengthen the fractured area. Prayers are certainly with You, Mom!!! Dad said Mom could come home in about three days. More to come...

Last Saturday, Aug 20th, Carol & I took Mom Peters to Denver to visit Orv & Nancy. Orv wasn't feeling very well and had lost alot of weight. Regulating levels of medications and oxygen has been a real challenge for Nancy and the doctors. That evening Nancy fixed a big meal and the Dyer clan came over. It was good to see Mike & Shari, Gary, Shannon, Morgan, and Ashley. On Sunday we went out for breakfast at Village Inn. And that afternoon Carol and I met up with my Mom, Dad, Susan (my sister), my brother Don and Sis-in-Law Chris at Crackerbarrel in Loveland, Colorado. Nice to visit with everyone, even though it was short. Nancy, thank you for the GREAT meals and hospitality. We flew home on Monday morning, Aug 22nd. And it was back to "the ole grind" today.

This week we've been removing white rock and plastic barrier material from the front yard. We decided to use red rock instead. And after many hours of preparation, we finally laid down new barrier and about 40 bags of red rock. It took us all day Saturday, but it was worth it!

Last weekend Russ & Roberta came up and we got together for a while. Friday night Russ brought half of the crew over and we ate dinner at Papa's Pizza, then we went to OMNI-Max and watched "the Hubble" on the BIG screen (with surround sound). Sunday, we met for a late lunch and we went to a park by the Beaverton Library - lots of stuff for the kids to do! Kelly and Carol put everything together (food, drinks, etc) and it worked out really well - thanks girls :)

Today was a catch up day for all of the house things I've put off until "the good weather" :) So, we hit the trim on the house early. When into the crawl space and cleaned it up from the construction crew (years ago!) and checked for bugs, water leaks and stuff like that - we're lookin' good! The bedroom door kinda hung up on the new carpet (last year), so we fired up the table saw and took 1/4 inch off the bottom - works great now. So all that's left is to watch the Nationwide Nascar race thisafternoon :)

Mini- Vacation

We decided to make a few mini-trips this week instead of one long trip. So, we took off after work on Friday, July 8th and drove to Pendleton, OR and continued to Boise, ID to see Shay & Michael. We drove home on Sunday and washed the van and packed for Monday. Early Monday we left Portland and headed for Lynden, WA to see Zachary. Once we got there we had Jill, Brooklyn, Tylor and Zac come to the hotel and go swimming. We met Brian and had Mexican food for dinner. Dessert was at their house...so fun :) The next morning we headed for home and then on to Lincoln City, OR.

Wednesday A.M. we drove to Seaside, OR to do some scouting for Jill & Brian, then back to Lincoln City. We drove home early Thursday morning so Carol could do her hair thing. At noon we picked up Jim & Vonnie Lash and headed for Jazz Alley in Seattle, WA to hear Brian Colbertson. Great show!!!

We drove home that night and crashed (went to bed) at about 1:30 a.m. Today Carol & I had commitments all over the place including the yard, helping friends, etc. And we still feel like we're moving when we're sitting on the couch :) More pics etc. to come! The PBR at St. Paul, OR

Thursday evening we picked up Jim & Vonnie Lash and drove to St. Paul to see the Professional Bull Riders. This was the only event. Riders came from as far away as Texas and Montana. The bulls were tough to ride - only 8 riders made the final ride. None of them rode the 8 seconds. So the win went to the first round winner. This weekend we'll be putting new brakes on the van and gettin' her ready to get on the road next week. Friday, after work we're headin' for Boise, ID to see Shay & Michael. More to come!

New Car

I saw this die-cast 1/24 scale car on Ebay and couldn't believe the price. So, I bid on it - and won. This is a 2005 Chevy Monte Carlo, driven by Jeff Gordon, advertizing Star Wars III. It's got a special paint job called color chrome. It looks like they chromed the car first, then sprayed the paint on afterwards. I have the Star Wars I also, but, it's not color chrome. Just thought I'd share!

Last night, after work, we packed up the dog and drove to Cannon Beach. We had fish & chips at Mo's and walked on the beach for a while. We came across the really cool sand castle. The wind was calm and the sunset was great! Quick get-a-way , we were home by 10:30p.m. I will post more soon.

Friday, May 27th, we loaded the van and picked up Mikayla and Madison and headed south for Russ & Roberta's 30th Anniversary. We spent the night at Canyonville, OR and drove the rest of the way (Redding, CA) the next day. In Ashland, OR we hit rain that turned into snow!? We checked in at the La Quinta and cleaned up a bit before going to The Wegner Ranch. It was so good to see Mom, Dad, Susan, and Uncle Bob & Aunt Ev Crowder! Getting all of the kids together all at once was a real treat. I can't believe how they've all grown.
The renewing of vows was so nice - and the food was perfect. What a great time! The next morning we had a small breakfast and got on the road, heading back to Oregon. The girls were really good, and I think they had fun swimming and playing at the arcade. We had them home by dinner.

Friday Night get-away

Last night , after work, we decided to "hit the beach". Carol readied a cooler and the doggie bed, and we were off to Seaside. We had dinner at Pizza Hut and made our way to the beach. I thought we'd be able to post some great sunset pictures, but it got really cloudy (as you can see).
But, it was fairly warm and low wind factor - good beach walking weather! Payton was excited that he didn't have to stay home :) Next weekend we're off to Russ & Roberta's for their 30th Anniversary - so, more to come soon!

Sleep-over

We had Mikayla, Madison, & Gracie spend the night Friday. I got home from work late, and Carol & the girls decided to go out for dinner - Red Robbin. We just had a quiet evening at home.

Our first really nice Saturday finally arrived and we took full advantage of it! Carol, myself and Mom Peters took a drive to the coast for lunch at Mo's. It was clear and in the low 60's. Lot's of people were walking their dogs and some kite flying. We took Payton and he enjoyed being out - instead of being left at home. He sat on Carol's lap most of the way. When we got home, we made a Home Depot run and worked in the yard and washed the bugs off the van.

Gracy's Birthday Party

On Tuesday, April 19th we went to Kelly & Mike's place to cellebrate Gracy's birthday (#4). It seems like yesterday that she was born! There were lots of kids and the party was a hit. The house was decorated and Grace was in a really cute dress. Madison and Mikayla helped keep the party goin' - way to go girls!

The next day - Wednesday, April 20th, I took Carol to OHSU - along with Jim & Vonnie Lash - for a radiation body scan. This was to make sure the radiation pills she had to take - did their job and destroyed any residual cancer cells from the Thyroid removal operation (several months ago). After her scan we went to lunch. And when we returned, an e-mail stated that Carol was totally "good to go". We want to thank family and friends for all of the prayers, phone calls, e-mails, etc. during this time!

Back to work after a little vaction time. In between rain storms, I shot this picture of University Falls on the way to Tillamook, OR on Thursday. Toward the end of the week we started to dry out. And yesterday, Saturday, we actually got a chance to mow the back yard! After church today, we washed Carol's car, rotated her tires and picked up Mom Peters for homemade lunch. And, ofcourse, we watched the NASCAR race at Martinsville, VA. I'm not ready for a new week - but, hold on...it's comin' fast! Have a great week!

Spring Break

I took a little time off from work and it just so happened to be Spring Break for the kids in Oregon. Carol & I loaded the van Sunday, March 20th and headed south toward Russ & Roberta's house (Redding, CA). We were watching the weather pretty close and decided to stay in Canyonville, OR. We got up early and met Russ & Roberta around noon on Tuesday. Most of the kids were in school and Andrew watched the little ones left at the house, so we could have lunch and go for a little ride to Shasta Dam. When we returned to the house, the kids were home from school so we got to visit for a while. We spent the night in Redding and left early the next morning. On the way home we ran into snow at Black Butte, but we followed the Big Trucks and got home before dark.

What a time the younger kids had on a Disney cruise. Great idea for family fun. Hope everone is doing well. We'll post more soon!

Dreamin'

Yesterday, Saturday, March 12th, Carol & I went to the Portland RV Show with Jim & Vonnie Lash. It was huge...lots of walking and going up and down ladders, etc. (lots of fun!). The weather was pretty good, but everything was inside 4 huge sections. Tent trailers, Sport utility trailers, 5th wheelers, Travel trailers, Campers, and Motorhomes were all on display. I was amazed by the prices! And with the rising cost of fuel, it's a wonder people would consider purchasing anything like this. But, it was fun to look! Jim & Vonnie have a 5th wheel trailer now (29 ft) and we looked at several that were longer (32, 34, 39 footers). The 5th wheel manufacturer's seem to cater to the senior couples - usually one bedroom, one bath, large kitchen and living room. Most had big screen TV's, surround sound, and imitation fireplace.
Rainy weather the rest of the week. Lots of work to do before next weekend. Hope everyone has a great weekend! More Later!

Outside time

We finally got a nice day, in fact, three in a row. I had a long weekend this week so I took time to clean vehicles and do some yard clean up. What a mess! Time to bring out the power washer and get rid of all the moss, etc. on the cement and house! Saturday Jim & Vonnie Lash came over and we picked up Mom Peters for dinner at Marie Calendars. Sunday we went to Kelly & Mike's for lunch - it was great to be with them and the grand kids. Kelly was right - my arm hurt the next day from playing Wii with the kids. Our next outing will be south to see Russ & Roberta on March 22.

So after 66 races, Jeff Gordon #24 won the Phoenix Subway Fresh 500 today. Great race, lots of action, I felt bad for Carl Edwards - I think he could have won! Jeff's car was very strong all day.
Looks like a new race version die-cast will be out soon!!! I like the new colors and design.

Today we watched Madison perform her first moves at Taekwondo (SP?). She did really well and received her yello/white belt. This was a trial 5 week course and she wants to keep going!

Englebert Concert

Last night Jim & Vonnie Lash came over and we hopped into the van and drove to Newberg, OR for dinner. Afterwards we surprised Vonnie (Jim already knew about it) by driving to Grande Ronde and we'd purchased tickets for Englebert Humperdinck as an anniversary present. Great concert! Almost 2 hours of non-stop music - new and old, romantic and country - he did it all. The band was outstanding. A little solo performance was done by each instrument - great piano and keyboardists. We sat in the center section, row L, on the end - thanks for making the reservations Carol! Congratulations on 40 years together Lash's! May you have many more.

Today was TAX day for us. We had a 9:30 a.m. appointment with Bryan - our accountant. So we picked up Mom Peters and drove to Tualatin. I suppose it's a good thing to break even - we owe the feds and the state of Oregon owes us. Hope everyone is doin' okay. More to come soon.

Birthday gift

On January 16, 17 Carol & I went to Lincoln city and stayed on the beach. I took Monday off and we took our time coming home. Jim & Vonnie Lash had us over for dinner on Sat. and Jim grilled steaks, and I received a rookie card encased in plastic - Jeff Gordon! 1990. Carol found out I was bidding on a Greg Biffle rookie car 2001 (gold, limited edition) and she bought it for me. This car is awsome...even the interior and motor are gold. This summer when Greg and his wife come to the Banks track, I'll have him sign it. A BIG "THANK YOU" to everyone for my Cards and letters...I don't feel 59!!!

Carol, Mom Peters, and I took Kelly and the girls out for dinner at Olive Garden on Wednesday - we celebrated Kelly's birthday. The girls were all dressed up - sooooo cute!!! More to come!

Jean & Mark Matney's 65th Anniversary

Last Saturday, 8 January 2011, Carol & I took Mom Peters to Salem to celebrate Jean & Mark Matney's 65th Wedding Anniversary. It was great to see relatives, hear stories from the past, and remember those who had passed on. The wedding picture book and original wedding dress were really something to see!

Christmas 2010

Christmas came soooo fast this year! Mom Peters, Kelly and the girls came over on Christmas Day. Even Payton got a present...and was trying to help everyone open theirs too! New Years Eve we spent with Mom Peters and Jim & Vonnie Lash. Good food and lots of Pinocchle games. The Candle Light service at our church was really nice - good time to reflect. Thanks to all who helped make this such a special time! The day after Christmas we went to see the Rockettes downtown Portland, Rose Garden Arena. They are never disappointing - what a show.

Today we're taking Mom to visit relatives in Salem, OR - It's the Matney's 65th anniversary.

40th Anniversary

Carol & I took off after work on Thursday, 02 December and drove to Cannon Beach, OR. We've always wanted to check out Tolavona Inn, so I made reservations and it was great! We celebrated our anniversary early because Carol's children's choir had rehearsal on Saturday and they were singing in both services on Sunday. We had the pool and sauna to ourselves. We had dinner at Mo's (Dad, Mom, and Aunt Nancy will remember Mo's). I took these pictures from our 3rd floor balcony. It was 42 degrees and a slight wind - not bad for December!

At Lynette's house

We had a great time in Phoenix during the Thanksgiving holiday. The flights were on time and Mom Peters was a real trooper - especially going through the airports! We flew on Thanksgiving Day and returned to Portland on Saturday afternoon. We rented a little Nissan and drove to Lynette's house. Lynette and Frank had dinner ready when we arrived. I can't believe how big Caleb and Joshua are! Lynette - thanks for the bowling games, pictures, and dinner. He also had a short visit with Chris and her sister Teresa. They were in town to be with their Dad in one of the hospitals in Phoenix.

Last night we went to Grande Ronde, OR and heard REO Speedwagon. What a concert! Earplugs were required (thanks Carol!). We took some good friends with us...Brad and Lisa Claybaugh. We stopped in Wilsonville for a little dinner. The concert was at 8:00p.m. We got home about 11:30p.m. Lisa caught a guitar pick (what a lucky!). Brad and I were amazed at the guitars they had...old and new...all sizes, shapes, manufacturers, and colors. No more concerts for us until the new year...too much going on.

Sounds like Dad's back injury is healing up nicely. He's still sore, but it beats the other options!

I wanted to share a picture of the barometer/temp/humidity plaque that Mark Dentel made for us. We finally found a place for it! As you can tell, the detail is awesome and the anchor on top makes it really special - after all, we are a Navy family. Mark and Laurie are good friends that live in Dallas, OR. Mark works with me at Patterson Dental as a seasoned service technician. Thanks again, Mark!
My Dad is doing lots better. He stayed in the hospital for a couple of days. But, you can't keep a good man down - he's home and taking it easy for a while. I haven't heard about repairing the cracked vertebrae yet...I'll pass on the info ASAP.
Yesterday I picked up leaves prior to the downpour. Then Carol and I took Millie and Mom Peters to lunch, both are doing fairly well. A few aches and pains, but we ALL have those! Then we took off for church. We have a Saturday evening service that's the same as the two services on Sunday. NASCAR race today at Martinsville - go Jeff Gordon!

Dad is in the Hospital

Just a quick note to everyone - I received a call from my Mom tonight telling me that Dad was in the hospital with a back injury. He fractured vertebrae #L1. A CAT scan and MRI have been taken and injury confirmed. Dad's in alot of pain , even with I.V. morphine. He fell backwards while working at home, cutting wood for the wood stove. I called him (at the hospital) and he's in good spirits. He's at the Cheyenne Medical Center (307-634-2273) Room 4225 - Al Wegner.

Keep him in your thoughts and prayers, some decisions on disc repair need to be made in the near future.

Carol & I got up early and headed West to Forest Grove, OR. Every summer Pacific University holds Concours D'Elagance (sp?). This car show is unique - it's held oudoors, on the lawns of the university. And is not limited to the "old favorites" that are restored, but modifies and custom cars too. I'll show just a few so everone gets an idea of what's showing. What a great Auto wekend - Carol was a real sport, lots of walking around the campus! Can't wait for nesxt year!

Carol & I talked Jim & Vonnie Lash into going to the Sunset Raceway in Banks, OR on Saturday night. Greg Biffle was signing autographs...so...there ya go! Thank you Greg - what a great guy!

Our friends Curt, Larry, and Roxanne saved us some top row seats. When the sun set, the temperture took a nose dive and the wind picked up. Not a typical summer evening! But, we sure had a great time!

On 11 July Carol & Mom Peters and I took off for Denver, CO. We flew Frontier Airlines - GREAT flight, and they really helped Mom get around the airports. We rented a car and drove to Orv & Nancy Dyer's house. Mom was going to stay with them and Carol and I left for Cheyenne after a Super dinner! We arrived at the Mariott Fairfield in Cheyenne around 11:00p.m. The next couple of days were spent gathering stuff for the anniversary party for Mom & Dad Wegner (60th). And crusin' around Cheyenne. It was great to see everyone, and I think Mom & Dad were surprized how many people came to wish them well. Hope everyone had a good time - thanks to all for your help and your gift for Mom & Dad.

Working Weekend

Today I get to go to DEQ and have my van checked for emissions. Then on to NAPA and get all the stuff I need to change the oil. We have to take good care of her 'cause she'a pair for. Next weekend we're headed for Denver & Cheyenne. We're taking Mom (or she's taking us) to Denver by plane and Carol & I will rent a car and drive to Cheyenne. I cannot believe it's the middle of June already! We celebrated Maddy's birthday last week - she's a BIG 8 years old. Mom Peters, Kelly & the girls, & Carol & I had ice cream and cake - mmmm. All of the girls are growing way too fast.

After work on Monday, I took Carol & Payton to Canon Beach to watch the sunset. It was kinda overcast and windy - 53 degrees. Will post more soon.

I attended Cerec Training in Charlotte, NC last week. The class was great , but the weather was just like Oregon's - WET. After our last day of training I visited the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Very nice facility! Lots of history and hands on demonstrations. The movie introduces you to what you're about to experience - the screen is 60 feet wide. It's like I-Max. The displays are well thought out and usually in chronological order.

When I got home on Saturday, Carol and I mowed the grass and did yard work in between rain drops at Mom's old place. Everything is out of the house and the place is really clean inside. Carol & Mom spent alot of time cleaning before I left for Charlotte. Closing on the house should be tomorrow or Thursday.

Mom's apartment is really lookin' cute. She bought a love seat (or small sofa) and Carol & I picked it up for her last Monday. Pictures are up, and I still need to hang a few things, but it's coming along great! I will try to get some pictures soon.

Continuing on the "house" project, we ordered a medium sized dumpster and had it delivered to Mom Peters' place. All of the wood stuff, garden stuff, and garage stuff that wasn't hazardous waste went into the dumpster - Carol & I filled it up in one evening! Guess I should have gotten a bigger one :) That was Thursday...on Saturday we worked on hazardous waste - made a trip to Portland. Then we made a trip to the dump (stuff that wouldn't fit into the dumpster). We delivered a dresser and mirror to some friends in Beaverton. That old Ford van sure came in handy! We returned to the house in the late afternoon and Carol did some cleaning inside and I mowed the front and back yard. Sunday (Mother's Day), I washed the van and cleaned the inside - then we picked up Mom and drove to Canon Beach and had lunch at Mo's! It was cooler there, but windy and clear.

Remember when I told everyone that Mom's house went on the market 15 April? Well, it sold on 23 April - Thanks to Sheila Done and friends! Closing is around May 27th. Nancy Dyer flew in from Denver on April 28th and we put her to work packing up glassware, books, etc. On May 1st we met Kelly & Etienne at Mom's place and we started dismantling everything! Between Etienne's truck and my van we made one BIG load and started setting things up for Mom at her new place. We started in the bedroom and living room - we just placed things where we thought they might go. Then the girls discussed where everything should go :) Cable TV and telephone lines were connected and activated. Carol and Nancy cleaned the new place prior to moving furniture in. Sunday we started organizing and putting things away - we had lunch at Mom's new place (it was good - cherry cobbler!). Then, I went back to the house and did some yard work.

A BIG - THANK YOU to everyone who helped make this move easy for Mom! Nancy, Kelly, Etienne, & Carol (the coordinator) you all did a great job in a very short amount of time. Thanks to Orv for letting us borrow Nancy for the week! Mom's phone number stayed the same. I'll make sure her address is available to everyone ASAP. More news soon.

Another very busy week...lots of news. First, Happy Birthday to Grace Douglas (3 years old)!

We had a great time at Kelly & Etienne's house last Sunday! (Gracie's birthday is actually on Monday the 19th). We picked up Mom Peters and had cake and ice cream! Grace opened her presents and Payton helped her. Second, Mom's house sold today! There was an offer and a counter - offer. So now, we start the packing and moving. Mom has a really nice place at Rock Creek. I'll post a web site as soon as possible so a visual tour is available. Mom will be moving around the 29th or 30th of this month.

We've been really busy the past week or so. Mom Peters has decided to get into a smaller place with less mainenance. Carol toured the area with Mom and came up with Rock Creek Retirement Community. Her house was listed on the market April 15th with Century 21 - thanks to Shiela Done! Nobody can be in the house when it's being shown - so Carol picks up Mom after work and comes over to our house on the weekend. I've been working on the yard along with Etienne. Tomorrow we're back at it - grass and box up stuff in the garage / shed. I'll post more pictures soon.

Next weekend we start moving non-essentials to the appartment.

Bringing Mom Home

Today was good news for Mom Peters, she got to go home! We picked her up from the hospital tonight around 8:30 pm. We took her home and got her settled into her own bed. She's walking great, but has to be careful of the incision site. They gave her a support belt to wear when she is getting up or moving around. Carol is staying at Mom's for a night or two just to see if she can move around okay. We don't want her to fall after all of this! Kelly & Carol cleaned the house for Mom today (washed the linen, etc. too). Thanks to everyone for the e-mails and phone calls - what an encouragement. Progress report soon!

Etienne, Kelly and girls came over for Easter dinner today. We had plenty to eat and lots to be thankful for! The girls found all of their Easter eggs that Grammy hid. Then we all went to the hospital to visit Mom Peters. She's doing really well. She off of the liquids and onto almost anything she wants to eat. The surgical site is sore, but she's handling that very well. The staff has her up and walking about 2 or 3 times a day. I think that Physical Therapy will begin tomorrow. We'll be going back up to her room this evening and we'll check on progress.

It's Friday evening and we just got back from the hospital. Mom Peters had surgery this afternoon and her doctor was very happy with the way things went. Her tumor was removed, and the slight kink in her intestine was straightened, and her overies were removed (should have been done with a historectomy years ago). The doctor also stated he was certain that the tumor was cancer free - but, the lab will give results in a couple of days. Mom was kinda fuzzy after surgery, but she's back in her bed (room 842 at the hospital) and very comfortable. She fell asleep while we were there. A BIG Thank you to everyone who was praying for Mom! We'll give an update tomorrow.

This is day #7 for Mom Peters' visit in the hospital. Lots of developments - a CAT scan was performed on Monday, we found out the "scar tissue" theory was a tumor, the doctors told Carol and Mom that they had two (2) choices - (1) do nothing and starve to death (2) have the operation to remove the tumor. Starting tonight, Mom is getting nutrients from an I.V. Friday April 2nd Mom will have surgery done at St. Vincent. Thank you all for the phone calls and prayers! Mom's attitude and expectations are high due to your encouragement. More to come on Friday!

Thursday afternoon I received a call from Carol stating she was at Mom Peters house and had to call 911 because Mom developed severe stomach pains. I met carol at the Emergency Room at St. Vincent Hospital. Mom had been admitted and was in a temporary holding room. She was seen by a Dr., given pain meds, and shot up to x-ray dept. As far as they can tell, scar tissue from past surgeries has caused a partial blockage in her lower intestine. So, they moved her into a permanent room (by herself) and have been pumping her stomach for two days now. She has had no food or water to date. Tomorrow they will decide if surgery is required. The pain meds are confusing her memory and thought process, but today she has had no pain meds and seems to be in pretty good spirits. She said she wanted a shower and her hair curled as soon as possible!

The past weekend was monumental for Mom Peters. We had Dad's memorial at the Peters' house. And on Monday, March 15th, Carol helped set up Military Honor Guard at Willamette Memorial Cemetery. Carol, Mom Peters, Nancy Dyer and I drove over in the van. The Honor Guard was so good. Very precise. Very professional. They folded the flag in front of everyone and a three gun salute was offered. One soldier handed the folded flag to Mom and another gave Mom the casings from the riffle. Both of them offered condolences. This was the first time Mom had seen Dad Peters' vault.

Saturday, March 13th, Carol helped Mom Peters and Nancy Dyer hold a Memorial Open House at the Peters' house in Hillsboro, OR. Relatives, friends and neighbors visited with Mom and certainly comforted her! Mike & Sheila Done did an outstanding job of preparing food and beverages! Tomorrow we're going to the Willamette Memorial Cemetery and there will be military honors performed for Dad Peters. At the end of the ceremony, they will fold the American Flag and give it to Mom. And she will see the location of his vault for the first time.

Tuesday, March 26th Nancy flies back to Denver. It seems like she always knows when we need a little help...and she always volunteers. What a God-send!

Last weekend the girls brought their parents over to have dinner and ride bikes. Etienne bought Grace a new bike with training wheels - she concentrating on the next turn! And Madison keeps her bike here.

A BIG THANKS to Kelly and Etienne for their help at The Peters' house. It looks great inside and out! The winter left the yard and outside of the house a mess. Easter and Spring Break are coming up! I'll post more soon.

Carol made arrangements for us to stay in Newport, OR this weekend. The weather was good for the coast, in winter. It was 55 and light wind. This was a Sunday A.M. shot at Lincoln City. Kinda foggy and angry sea. Jim & Vonnie Lash gave us a gift card for the buffet in Grande Ronde - and we put that to some good use!!!(Thanks, you guys!) We came home via Tillamook just in time to watch the Daytona 500 :) Way to go - Jamie Mc Murray!!! Perfect weekend - now we're getting ready for the reality of a new week.

Hey, what a surprize to see Mike Dyer this past Tuesday evening! He flew in from Denver on business and we hooked up for dinner. You can't go wrong with Spaghetti Factory! After church today I met with Clay, Caleb, and Chad Nagel and we took the MAX downtown to the convention center - 2010 Portland Auto Show. We saw tons of cars, trucks and SUV's. None of which we could afford! But, it sure was fun to look! Great meal at China Bay too.

Well January is almost gone. Big birthday month for the family, Don, Dana, Kelly and me.

Carol and I ran down to Florence, OR for dinner and a movie (The Book of Eli). Then we spent the night in Newport. We stopped at Grande Ronde for breakfast (buffet), then headed home.

Great weekend...very relaxing...thank you Carol!

Mom Peters is doing pretty well. The house seems a little bigger as mom down-sizes and makes donations to Goodwill, etc. She went with Carol & me last week to see Signature Sound - Gospel Quartet from The Gaithers. We had a great time and met our friends Clay & Cindy Nagel at the concert. Today Etienne (Mike), Kelly, and I helped Mom at the house and did minor repairs and yard work - Kelly cleaned the house - Thank You guys! Hope everyone has a great weekend!

On December 15th we lost Dad Peters to a heart attack at home. He was 85 years young and never quite recovered from previous surgeries this past summer. We miss him alot and want to thank all friends and relatives for your cards, letters, and prayers during this time. Mom Peters went in for Melanoma surgery (on her nose) on the 17th of December and reconstruction surgery on the 18th. Carol and Mom have been strong during this transitional time. I'll post more after the Christmas holiday. Merry Christmas to all!

Short Vacation

Thanksgiving was at our house on Thursday, 26 Nov 2009. Kelly, Mike, and girls came over and Mom & Dad Peters were here too. Everybody brought food and nothing was duplicated! Lots of food, football and fun! After all of the festivities and clean-up, Carol & I packed our suitecase for a quick trip to Redding, CA to visit Russ & Roberta. We had rain most of the way and at the Siskew summit we hit snow (it wasn't sticking). As we entered California the weather cleared and it was 61 degrees in Redding. We had a great visit with Russ, Roberta, and the Gang! What a great house...lots of room for kids and adults! We left around noon and spent the night in Canyonville, OR. It was lots of fun! The weekend went way too fast.

Coastal Visit

Yesterday Carol & I got up early and had breakfast in Grand Ronde, OR. Then, on to highway 101 and followed the coastline to Florence. It was supposed to be cloudy and rainy, but as the pictures reveal...it was very nice and 56 degrees. Once we made the turn at Florence to go east and head toward the freeway - it poured! This was Carol's day...she had a birthday this week and she just wanted some "quiet coast time". Thanks to Mom & Dad Peters for watching Payton (our pooch)!

Last weekend we attended the Tammy Lash wedding in Newport, OR. Great setting (at Stone Crest Cellars) against the background of the Pacific Ocean! Beautiful wedding, great people and the weather co-operated. Congratulations and thank you for the invitation!

After the wedding we got into the van and drove to Canyonville, OR (about four hours away). We ate dinner and went to hear Ronnie Milsap. He was Great! And sang quite a few of his older hits and some of his new songs. His new CD is "Then Sings My Soul".We spent the night and drove home the next day (but, we followed the coastline home! My little van has 600 new miles on her from last weekend.

Summer is moving quickly and will soon be gone. July and August have flown by. Dad Peters is doing much better. Gaining a little bit of weight (slowly) and driving! He still has a few issues, but he's doing well. Carol had thyroid surgery July 29th and she's doing really good. It was a single night stay for observation and then home. Thank you all for your prayers, calls, visits and meals :)

Carol & I went to a Brian Culbertson / Dave Koz concert Friday, 21 Aug. What a sound! And Peobo Bryson was the guest vocalist. Two hours of heaven!

Last Sunday, 23 Aug, we picked up Kelly, Etienne, and the girls and spent the day at Seaside, OR. Great weather and everyone had a good time. Thanks for the lunch and snacks - Kelly & Carol!!!

Hello Greg Biffle

So, now, all the preparations are over and the tuxedos are back to the rental place! And Kelly & Etienne are honeymooning on the Oregon coast - we have the girls.

Dad's Finally Home

On Wednesday evening (June 24th) Carol, Mom, & I went and picked up Dad Peters and drove him home in his own car. The next morning a nurse from Tuality Hospital gave us instructions on taking care of Dad. Shay & Michael drove in from Boise, ID the weekend before his release (good to see them!). Dad enjoys being in his own bed. Today Carol, Mom, & Dad sat in the back yard and threw the ball for Payton. Dad said he's really glad to be away from Rehab.

Madison's 7th Birthday

Madison's real birthday was on the 12th of June. But, we celebrated today! Kelly & Etienne brought cake and goodies. Carol, myelf and Mom Peters helped eat - great Subway sandwiches!

Carol and the kids made a trip to the Hillsboro Rehab Center to bring Dad Peters some cake...but, he was sleeping pretty hard.

Way to go Madison...you only have 50 years to go to catch up to Papa!

Dad Peters Graduates to Rehab

Dad Peters was released from the hospital and transported to the Hillsboro Rehabilitation Center on June 2, 2009. Its only two blocks from his doctor's office. He's eating alot better and he's never lost his sense of humor. His health is improving on a daily basis - thank you all for your thoughts, prayers and personal visits.

My concern is consistant mental awareness - one day he's sharp as a tack, the next day he wants to know where he is and why he's there. Carol is taking Mom & Dad to his doctor for total evaluation on Wednesday, June 10.

Dad Peters went into the hospital on May 12th to have his cancerous bladder removed. His recovery was going fairly well when the sutures and staples opened when hw was caughing. He went back into surgery and he's recovering faster this time around. Nancy Dyer flew in from Denver to help Mom (and all of us). What a blessing! She's flying back to Denver today and we'll miss her! Mom is doing fairly well under the circumstances - not eating much, and wants Dad home. But, the reality is - he's probably going to have to go to a rehab center for a week or so. Carol, Nancy, and Mom cleaned house yesterday. Etienne (Mike) did the lawn for Dad last weekend. Cindy & Clay Nagel brought dinner one evening this week. We just want to thank everyone for your help during this time! I'll try to post news as soon as I can - I kinda put things on the back burner for a while until we knew what was going on with Dad. His pathology report came back - he's cancer free! Now, we just need him to get back to normal. Thanks to everone for your prayers and calls!
